Ice Cream in Bologna
The sobetteria (don't ask me why they don't call themselves a gelateria) is tucked away in a narrow street within a nice walk from Piazza Maggiore. On the way to your gelato, you will pass by some interesting bookshops, one of which specializes in esoteric texts - Libreria Minerva - there you can find a zany but fun read called "Bologna Magica". Their gelati ranks among the best that have ever touched my tastebuds. Thanks for the tip, Marco!
I'm not a big chocolate ice cream fan, but their "Bacio" is something out of this world; a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness, enhanced with the crunch of whole hazelnuts. Put that in a cono or copa with fior di panna and you have the perfect serving of gelato. Fior di panna in itself is also something special; throughout Italy you will find fior di latte, a deliciously simple flavor. The fior di panna (cream) takes that goodness to new heights. I tried also their pistacchio and their specialty cream flavors: they were all incredible. To top it off, they have a fantastic gourmet chocolate shop adjoining the gelateria.
